| 1. General Description of the Prison: whether Common Gaol, House of Correction, or otherwise? (To be accompanied by a Ground Plan of the Buildings, &c.) | Consisting of three detached buildings surrounded by a stone wall 25 feet high at the S.E. and N.W. angles, erected two stories, one by the European guard house, the other temporarily occupied. There is a building for sailors' attendance and office overlooking the South side. And a residence for a gaoler within the Gaol Compound on the N. side with buildings newly erected. 1853. |

Fourteen European Turnkeys. Fourteen Indian and one Chinese Guard, all resident within the Prison walls. Female prisoners are attended to by Female Officers exclusively. |

For overseers set aside for working in. Another, separate yard for Chain gang. |

Under what system and control the Food, Medicine, and Clothing for the Prisoners is contracted for, or otherwise provided? | European prisoner receives weekly: Beef 3½ lbs, Bread 7 lbs, Sugar 3 oz, Soap 1 oz, Salt 2 oz. Colored prisoners: Rice 10 lbs, Vegetables daily, etc. Food contracted for yearly. It is inspected by the Gaoler and occasionally by the Sheriff and Colonial Surgeon. Clothing and Medicine supplied by Government, supplied when necessary. |
| 7. Allowance of Clothing and Bedding per head? | Tabulated supply, but Blankets issued to Colored prisoners. To Europeans all the necessary clothing when required. |
