  1. By the Harbour Master's Return at page 193 of the Blue Book, it will be seen that the total number of vessels which arrived in the Colony during the past year was 1,097, burden of an aggregate 433,383 Tons, which, compared with 1851, shows an increase of 15 vessels and 56,299 Tons.

The Returns following the above at page 197 prove that 74 vessels imported and 79 exported goods to and from the Colony. At page 118, this Return shows that Treasure to the value of $3,074,845, £1,265,592.14.2, has been remitted to India during the past year by the Peninsular and Oriental Company's Steamers alone. This large amount of Specie is chiefly in return for the Opium brought thence, and sold to the Chinese along the Coast; the quantity of this drug imported by the same vessels is also shown
