A large number of Chinese are employed in their respective chops and houses, in the various industrial trades and manufactures, and there are scarcely any ordinary wants of the inhabitants which do not meet with a ready supply within the Colony.
There are no fisheries on the island, with the exception of a few stake-nets on rocky projections in the bays, the trade being supplied by Junks employed in the deep-sea fishing along the coast.
