committal or trial of such defendant in any criminal cause or matter or conduct any appeal on behalf of any such defendant in any criminal cause or matter.
(4) Notification in the Gazette to the effect that a person has been appointed to any of the offices referred to in subsection (1), or has ceased to hold any such office, shall be sufficient proof of the facts stated in the notice.”.
3. Section 28 of the principal Ordinance is amended by inserting, after paragraph (p) of subsection (2), the following--
"(pa) provide, either generally or specially, for the fees and costs of any officer bolding office under section 3 in respect of any civil matter (whether contentious or non- contentious) in which be has occasion to act:”.

An Ordinance to amend the Magistrates Ordinance,

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Magistrates (Amend- ment) Ordinance 1972 and shall come into operation on a day to be appointed by the Governor by notice in the Gazerre.
2. The principal Ordinance is amended by adding after section 8 the following new section-
"Notice to appear before a magistrate in respect of certain offences. Pourth Schedule. Forua IA
BA. (1) Notwithstanding section 8. if a public officer specified in the first column of the Fourth Schedule reasonably suspects that a person has com- mitted any offence specified opposite thereto in the second column of that Schedule, the public officer may serve on that person personally a notice requiring him to appear at a time, being not earlier than three clear days after the notice has been served on him
