(b) by inserting after paragraph 4 the following new para-
graph-
5.
5. The Vice-Chancellor shall have such dis- ciplinary powers in respect of students as may be conferred by these statutes and any regulations made thereunder.".
The principal Statutes are amended by adding after Salute IX the following new Statute-
"STATUTE IXA.
THE DEAN OF STUDENTS.
1. The Dean of Students shall be an officer and shall be appointed by the Council after consultation with the Senate.
1. The Dean of Students
(a) shall be responsible la the Vice-Chancellor for the overal co-ordiastion of all matters relating to student welfare; and
(b) shall discharge such other duties in connexion with student affaim as may be determined by the Council".
6. Statute X of the principal Statutes is amended by insert- ing after paragraph 5 the following new paragraph-
*6. The Secretary to the Council shall be an officer.".
Statute XVIII of the principal Statutes is amended by deleting paragraph 4 and substituting the following-
The Council may appoint a Secretary to the Council who shall not be a member of the Council.",
#. Statule XIX of the principal Statutes is amended in paragraph 2—
(a) by deleting sub-paragraph (/) and substituting the
following-
"(D) to entertain and adjudicate upon complaints from, and to redress grievances of, members of the University and persons employed therein;
Provided that the Council shall not enter- lain or adjudicate upon any complaint which falls within the jurisdiction of the Disciplinary Committee;"; and

(b) by inserting after sub-paragraph (/) the following new
sub-paragraph-
"(a) to allow or dismiss an appeal from the Dis- ciplinary Committee and to vary any penalty imposed by the Disciplinary Committee:".
Statute XXIII of the principal Statutes is amended in paragraph | by deleting sub-paragraph (k).

10. Statute XXVIII of the principal Statutes is amended in paragraph t by deleting sub-sub-paragraph (a) of sub-paragraph (1) and substitúting the following—
"(a) the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice- Chancellors, the Treasurer, the Deans of the Facul- ties, the Dean of Students and the Registrar:”.
11. The principal Statutes are amended by adding after Statute XXIX the following new Statutes-
"STATUTE XXX.
The Disciplinary CommitIES.
In this stature, unless the context otherwise requires—
"Committee” means the Disciplinary Committee appointed under
paragraph 2
"Senate panel" means the panel appointed under paragraph 3
"Secretary" means the Secretary to the Committee appointed under
paragraph 7
"student panel" means the panel appointed under paragraph 4.
2. (1) The Disciplinary Committee shall consist of— (a) three members of the Senate appointed by the Secretary out of a Senate panel, being the three members of the panel highest in order of precedence who have accepted appointment to serve on the Committee; and
(8) two students appointed by the Secretary out of a studea! panel, being two members of the panel bighest in order of precedence who have accepted appointment to serve on the Committee.
(2) The Secretary sball make appointments to the Commillee in accordance with the procedure laid down in the regulations made by the Commitice,
(3) If the Secretary does not receive sufficient acceptances of appointment to enable him to appoint a full Committee and subject to the power of the Senate to All vacancies as provided in sub- paragraph (3) of paragraph 3. the Chancellor shall fill vacancies in the Committee from members of the University as defined in Statule IV.
