THE LOTTERIES FUND.

Resolution made and passed by the Legislative Council on the 30th day of June, 1965.

Resolved

1. that with effect from the 30th day of June, 1965, there shall

be established a fund styled the LOTTERIES FUND:

(This Note is not part of the regulations, but it intended to judicate their general purport).

Since the Merchant Shipping (Life Saving Appliancet) Regulations 1961 (the principal regulations) were enacted, the Victoria Harbour area has been extooded The main object of these amending regulations is to bring up to date the description of the Victoria Harbour Area in the Fifth Schedule on the principal regulations.

The Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Ordinance 1965 abolishes the necessity for publishing regulations under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1953 in the form of Tables. “Accordingly, the references 40 Tâble "10 are deleted from the principal regulations.

that the Fund or any part of it may be held in Hong Kong dollars or in sterling and shall be administered by the Finan- cial Secretary and may be invested in such securities as may be approved by him:

that there shall be credited to the Fund-

(a) a sum of $7,418,920 to be appropriated from the general revenue of the Colony with effect from the date of creation of the Fund;

(5) such appropriations from the general revenue of the Colony as may from time to time be made by this Council,

(c) such sums as may be required by or under any

Ordinance to be credited thereto;

(d) all sums received by way of repayment of loans or

advances granted from the Fund;

(e) all sums received by way of interest or dividend on investments, deposits, loans or advances of the Fund;

(f) such donations as may be offered to the Fund and which have been approved by the Finance Committee of this Council;

that the Financial Secretary may from time to time appropriate from the Fund monies for the purpose of financing by way of a grant, a loan or an advance the support and development of such social welfare services in the Colony as may be approved by the Governor, after receiving and giving consideration to the advice of the Social Welfare Advisory Committee, pro- vided that the amount of any appropriation, and the terms and conditions of the grant, loan or advance, shall in every case be subject to the prior approval of the Finance Committee of this Council.
