(2) Where an enactment makes provision for the coming into operation thereof on a particular day, whether such day is named in the enactment or is to be appointed. fixed or ascertained in any other manner, such provision shall be construed as bringing the enactment into operation immediately on the expiration of the day before that particular day.**.
Section 9 of the principal Ordinance is amended by the dele of scation 9. tion of subsection (2) and the substitution therefor of the following-
Repeal and replacement of section 18.
"(2) Where any enactment repeals any former enactment and substitutes other provisions therefor or re-enacts such former enack ment, with or without modification, the enactments and instro- ments made or prescribed by or under the earlier enactment shall. insofar as they are in force at the commencement of the enactment so repealing or re-enacting, and are not inconsistent therewith, have the like effect for all purposes as if they had been made or prescribed by or under the enactment so repealing or re-enacting.".
5. Section 18 of the principal Ordinance is repealed and replaced '|| by the following......
"Exercise of powers between passing and

18. Where an enactment which is not to come intol operation immediately on the passing or making thereof confers power-
(a) to make or issue any enactment;
(b) to make appointments;
(c) to hold elections;
(d) to prescribe forms;
(e) to make orders:
(f) to give directions;
(g) to issue proclamations;
(h) to issue schemes;
(0) to give notices; or
() to do any other act or thing whatsoever,
such power may be exercised, for the purpose of making the enactment effective upon its coming into operation. at any time after the enactment is pussed or made!
Provided that, except in so far as it may be necessary or expedient for such purpose, no enactment made by virtue of any power set out above shall have effect until the coming into operation of the enactment conferring such power.".
Section 19A of the principal Ordinance is amended-
Amendment of section

(0) by the insertion after the words "Legislative Council for" of 19A.
the following-
"the payment of the emoluments of":
(6) by the deletion of the words “has left the Colony" and the
substitution therefor of the following-
