STATUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY.

STATUTE I.

Interpretation.

In these statutes unless the content otherwise requires- "Ordinance" means the University Ordinance;

"University"", "statutes", "Court". "Council", "Senato", "Convocation"",

"Chancellor", "Vice-Chancellor", "Pro-Vice-Chancellor", "Treasurer" "Deans of Faculties". "Institute of Oriental Studies", "Registrar' "Bursar", "Librarian", "officer", "Teacher", shall have respectively the same meanings as they have in the Ordinance;

"academic year" means such period, not exceeding twelve consecutive monthe, and "term" and academic term" mean such part of an academic year, as the Senate shall from time to time determing.

STATUTE IL

Congregations.

1. The time, place and procedure of the congregations of the whole University shall be determined by the Chancellor.

2. The Chancellor, or in his absence the Vice-Chancellor, shall preside at congregations.

At least one congregation shall be held in each academic year,

Degrecs and other academic distinction.

The University may confer any of the following degrees- Bachelor of Arts-B.A.

Bachelor of Science-B.Sc.

Bachelor of Science with Honours-B.Sc. (Hons.)

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery-M.B., B.3. Bachelor of Science in Engineering B.Sc. (Eng.)

Bachelor of Architecture-B.Arch.

Master of Arts--M.A.

Master of Arts in Education-M.A. (Ed)

Master of Science-M.Sc.

Master of Surgery-M.B.

Master of Science in Engineering-M.Sc. (Eng)

Master of Architecture-M. Arch.

Doctor of Science-D.Sc.

Doctor of Medicine-M.D.

Doctor of Laws honoris cavao—LL.D. honoris causGN.

The University may award any of the following diplomas and certificates-m

Diploma in Education-Dip. Ed.

Diploma in Social Study-Dip. Soc. St.

Diploma in Pharmacy-Dip, Pharm,

Certificate in Social Study-Cert Soc. 31.

3. Degrees shall be conferred by the Chancellor, or in his absence the Vice-Chancellor, at congregations of the whole University,

4. No person shall be allowed to proceed to any degree without examination or other adequate test, but bonorary degrees may be conferred as the Chancellor thinks it on the recommendation of the Council as advised by the Honorary Degrees Committee.

Ери No degree in medicine or surgery shall be conferred on any person who has not completed a five years' courge of medical study at a University or other place of learning, including at least two years at the University of Hong Kong; and no degree in any other Faculty shall be conferred on any person who has not completed at least a three years' course of study at a University or other place of learning, including at least one year at the University of Hong Kong.

#. No new degree shall bo establiebad or other distinction of honour or merit adopted without reference to the Senate.

T No person shall be deprived of any degree, diploma, certificate or other academic distinction except for good cause by the Chancellor on the jotat recommendation of the Council and the Senate.

STATUTE IV,

Afambera of the University.

The members of the University shall be

the Chancellor;

the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and the Treasurer; the Deans of the Faculties, the Registrar, the Bursar, and the

Librarian:

the members of the Court; the members of the Council;

the members of the Senate;

the members of the Boards of the Faculties;

the Honorary and Emeritus Professora;

the teachers:

the wardens of University and Attached Halls;

the gradustes. And

the undergraduates.

A member of the University shall continue to be a member so long as he possesses any one of the qualifications set out in this statute.
