(6) No person who has three times failed to pass the Board's examination may again enter for such examination.".

Made by the Midwives Board on the 3rd day of July, 1957-

Chairman.

Approved by the Governor this 18th day of July, 1957.

By Command,'

WAL

Clanan Burgess.

Acting Colonial Secretary,

Explanatory Note.

(This Note is not part of the regulations, but is intended

to indicate their general perport).

The purpose of these regulations is to amend regulation 6 of the Midwives Regulations in order-

(a) that the qualifying examination for midwives may be conducted

by persons other than members of the Midwives Board, and

(8) that control over the conduct and standard of the examination

may be retained by the Board.

2. These agendments are consequential upon the passing of the Midwives (Amendment) Ordinance, 1987, which ́altered the constitution of the Midwives Board in such a manner that only three members will necessarily be doctors, registered or deemed to be registered under the Medical Registration Ordinance, 1957, instead of seven, damely the Director of Medical and Health Services and the Supervisor of Midwives of the Medical Department, both ex officio members of the Board, and a member nominated by the University of Hong Kong. As it is considered appropriate that the examination for midwives should continue to be conducted by registered doctors it has become necessary to call upon resources outside the membership of the Board, And again, as the examination will no longer be conducted by the members of the Board themselves it is appropriate that the Board should prescribe more specifically the standards requited.
