Explanatory Note.

(This Note is not part of the regulations, but is butended to indicate their peneral purport).

These regulations are made to amend the principal regulations to correspund with the amendment effected by the Urban Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 1966, whereby the number of elected and ap pointed members were increased to eight each with terms of office increased from two years to four years and elections only in alternate years. The opportunity has been taken to make certain minor amendments to the procedure under the regulations.

URBAN COUNCIL ELECTIONS (REGISTRATION of Electors) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1956.

In exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (1) of section 23 of the Urban Council Ordinance, 1955, the Governor in Council has made the following regulations-

and com- mencement.

1. These regulations may be cited as the Urban Council Citation. Elections (Registration of Electors) (Amendment) Regulations, 1956, and shall come into operation on the 1st day of February, 1956.

2. Regulation 2 of the Urban Council Elections (Registration Amend of Electors) Regulations, 1955. (hereinafter referred to as the ment of

regula- principal regulations) is amended by the deletion of paragraph (6) tion 2. and the substitution therefor of the following- "Forma

1 & 1A.

(6) The final register shall be in accordance with Form of the Appendix and the provisional register shall be in accordance with Form CA of the Appendix or as near thereto as shall be convenient.”.

3. Regulation 4 of the principal regulations is amended by Amend the deletion of paragraph (1) and the substitution therefor of the ment of following-

"(0) As soon as is practicable after the 1st day of July, 1950, and as soon as is practicable after the 1st day of July in each alternate year thereafter and in any case not later than the 14th day of July in any such year the registration officer, in consultation with the returning officer, shaft designate by notice in the Casette the places to be used as polling stations:

Provided that if for any reason whatsoever it becomes impracticable or impossible to use as a polling station any place so designated the registration officer, it consultation with the returning officer, at any time, not less than 21 days before any election, may designate any place to be used as a polling station in substitution
