NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the St. John's College Ordinance, 1956,

2. In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires-

"College" means the College of St. John the Evangelist; "Council" means the Council of the College established in

accordance with the constitution;

""constitution" means the constitution set out in the Schedule

and any subsequent amendments thereto;

''Master'' means the Master of the College;

"Members" means the President, Master, Fellows, Honorary Fellows and Treasurer, the members of the Council, the graduates of the University who have been registered as undergraduate members of the College or of St. John's Hall or of St. Stephen's Hall and the undergraduates of the University registered as such and for the time being residing in the College;

"President" means the President of the College;

"rules" means rules made by the Council under section 7; "Treasurer" means the Treasurer of the College; "University" means the University of Hong Kong,

3. There shall be established in the Colony a college affiliated to the University styled "the College of St. John the Evangelist" by which name the members of the College are hereby constituted a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal and with full power by and in such name to sue and be sued.

4. (1) Subject to the provisions of subsection (a) the College shall have power to acquire, accept leases of, purchase, take, hold and enjoy any lands, buildings, messuages or tene- ments of what nature or kind so ever and wheresoever situated,

and also to invest moneys upon mortgage of any lands, buildings, messuages or tenements, or upon the mortgages, debentures, stocks, funds, shares or securities of any government, munici- pality, corporation, company or person, and also to purchase, acquire and possess vessels and other goods and chattels of what nature and kind soever.

(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (1) the College shall not acquire any immovable property in the Colony unless it shall previously have obtained the special consent of the Governor in Council in each case.

(3) The College shall further have power to grant, self, convey, assigo, surrender, exchange, partition, yield up, mort- gage, demise, reassign, transfer and otherwise dispose of any lands, buildings, messuages, tenements, mortgages, debentures, stocks, funds, shares or securities, or vessels or other goods and chattels, which are for the time being vested in or belonging to the College, upon such terms as to the College may seem fit.

5. (1) All. that piece or parcel of ground known and Veeling of registered in the Land Office as Section A of Subsection of property. Section B of Inland Lot No. 1216 and the dwellinghouses erected thereon known as Nos. 13 and 15 Babington Paih (St. Stephen's Hall) together with all rights, easements and appurtenances thereto belonging now vested in the Trustees of the Church of England in the Diocese of Victoria Hong Kong (incorporated by the Church of England Trust Ordinance Cap. #77) upon trust for the Church Missionary Society is hereby transferred to and vested in the College for the unexpired residue of the term of years created by the Crown Lease of Inland Lot No. 1216 subject to the payment of the due proportion of the rent and the performance of the covenants and conditions reserved by and contained in the Crown Lease so far as the same are applicable thereto.

(2) All debentures, stocks, funds, shares or securities, or vessels or other goods and chattels which at the date of the coming into operation of this Ordinance are vested in or belong to the Councils of St. John's Hall and of St. Stephen's Hall uttached to the University, and all moneys subscribed for the purposes of the College and all investments of such moneys and all interest, income and profits arising from such investments
