Particulars of Aircraft Rating.
85. The aircraft rating included in a licence to fly aeroplanes may include one or more of the following groups or types of aeroplanes : Provided that each group shall be restricted to the class of aeroplanes in respect of which the applicant qualifies for the grant of a licence-
Group A-All single-engined types of acroplanes of which the maximum total weight authorized dues not exceed 12,500 lb.
Group B-All types of aeroplanes having two or more engines of which the maximum total weight authorized does not exceed 12,500 lb.
Group C.-Particular types of aeroplanes of which the maxi-
mum total weight authorized exceeds 12,500 lb.
Technical Requirements for Grant of Licence.
Flying Experience.
88. An applicant for the grant of a licence shall be required to produce satisfactory evidence that he has had not less than 40 hours' experience as a pilot of flying machines, comprising~
() dying training under a competent instructor in a dual-
controlled flying machine; and
(ii) at least 15 bours' flying as pilot in charge, not less than 3 hours of which must have been cross-country Bying carried out within the six months immediately preceding the date of the application, and must have included one flight on a triangular course during which the flying machine landed and came to rest al two intermediate places one being not less than go nautical miles from the place of departure :
Provided that-
() in the case of an applicant who has experience in the Hying of gliders the foregoing requirements, ex- cepting those in respect of cross-country flying, may be reduced to such extent as the Director may con- sider appropriate in the particular case; and (ii) in the case of an applicant who has passed an
approved course of flying training the said require ment of 40 hours' Hying may be reduced to go hours.
Practical Flying Tests.

87. The applicant shall, subject to the provisions of regula- tion 89, be required to demonstrate in the course of general flying rests his competence to carry out normal and emergency manoeuvres on the class, group or type of flying machine to which the application relates,
Technical examination.
88. The applicant shall, subject to the provisions of regula- tion 8g, be required to undergo an examination as to his knowledge of the following subjects-
(J) aviation law;
(b) elementary meteorology;
(e) map reading and use of compass;
(d) method of operation and functioning of flying machines, with particular relation to the class or type of flying machine for which the licence is desired.
Exemptions.
89. An applicant may, at the discretion of the Director and according to the applicant's qualifications and experience, be exempted from all or any part of the flying tests and technical examination if he
. (1) has at any time held a flying machine pilot's licence; or
(it) has satisfied an approved examiner within the period of one year immediately preceding the date of the applica- tion for the licence that he is competent to operate the class or type of flying machine to which the application relates.
For the purpose of this regulation the expression "an approved examiner" means--
(4) an Official Observer of the Royal Aero Club, or
(b) a person who has been authorized in writing by the Director to conduct the Aying tests or technical examina- tions.
