An Ordinance to establish a new court, having limited civil and criminal jurisdiction, to be known as the District Court of Hong Kong, and to make provision for the jurisdiction, pro- cedure and practice thereof and for purposes connected with the matters aforesaid.

Be it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the District Court Short title Ordinance, 1953, and shall come into operation on a day to be appointed by the Governor by proclamation in the Gazette.
In this Ordinance, unless the contest otherwise requires "action" means-a civil proceeding commenced by writ of summons or in such manner as may be prescribed by the District Court Civil Procedure Rules;
