2. Government in its reply to the question asked on the 25th July by the Hon. Mr. D. F. Landale on the subject of the future administration of the Port of Hong Kong, stated, inter alia, that it was considered desirable that the late Bir David Owen's recommendations for the creation of a Port Trust should receive complete reconsideration in the light of present conditions, and that it was proposed that the Port Executive Committee should continue to function until a final decision on policy had been reached. Will Government state how the matter now stands?

Questions,

The Honourable Mr. R. D. Gillespie, pursuant to notice, will ask the following

question

On June 30th 1946, I naked Government to state what was being done with the cheques drawn in Stanley which, by order of Mr. Gimson, were deposited with the Controller of Currency.

Governoient replied, inter alia, that in view of the desirability of adopting a common policy for the disposal of cheques issued in internment camps in British Dependencies, all cheques banded over to this Govern- ment were forwarded to the Colonial Office for disposal.

Since then, there has been no further unnouncement by Government. In view of the fact that these cheques have now been in the hands of the Colonial Office for well over a year, and toany people are being seriously inconvenienced by the lack of a settlement, will Government ascertain from the Colonial Office whether, in fact, it has any policy with regard to these cbeques and, if so, what it is?
