An Ordinance to make provision for the Chief Justice to authorise solicitors t, appear in any jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

BE IT ENACTED by the Governor of Hong Kong with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof as follows:-

This Ordinance may be cited as the Supreme Court (Emergency) Ordinance.

(1) It shall be lawful for the Chief Justice in the exercise of his discretion

(a) to authorise any duly enrolled solicitor of the Supreme Court and any person duly appointed Crown Solicitor or Assistant Crown Solicitor to appear and act as an advocate in any cause trial tnution matter or other proceeding in the Supreme Court,

(b) at the request of the Attorney General to authorise any duly enrolled solicitor of the Supreme Court to appear and act as an advocate on behalf of the Crown in any proceedings before a Magistrate or at the Criminal Sessions and also to appear before the Full Court on any ap- peal or question reserved arising out of any such proceedings.

(2) Nothing in this section shall affect

(e) the powers privileges and functions of or other provisions relating to the Crown Solicitor or any Assistant Crown Solicitor under the Crown Solicitors Ordinance, 1912; or

(b) the provisions of Sub-section (1) of Section 30 of the Legul Practi-

tioners Ordinance, 1871.

Such provisions of the following Ordinances as may conflict with the provi- sions of this Ordinance are suspended during the operation of this Ordinance:

(a) The Legal Practitioners Ordinance, 1871;

(b) The Supreme Court Ordinance, 1873;

(c) The Supreme Court (Summary Jurisdiction) Ordinance, 1873;

(d) The Code of Civil Procedure.
