PROCLAMATION.

Governor.

By His Excellency Sir GROPFBY ALEXANDER STAFFORD NORTHCOTE, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hong Kong and its Dependencies and Vice-Admiral of the same.

WHEREAS by section 3 of the Chinese Passengers Act, 1856, it is enanted that it shall be lawful for the Governor of Hong Kong by proclamation for the purposes of the said Act umong other things to declare what shall be deemed to be the duration of the voyage of any Chinese passenger ship:

AND WHEREAS by section 2 of the Asiatic Emigration Ordinance, 1916, it is enacted that in the said Ordinance the termi long voyage means any voyage within the meaning of the said Act which is declared by proclamation of the Governor to be a voyage of more than 30 days duration and that the term short voyage means any voyage within the meaning of the said Act of more than 7 days duration but not exceeding 30 days duration and any other voyage which may be declared by proclamation by the Governor to be a short voyage:

AND WHEREAS by Proclamation No. 27 published in the Hong Kong Government Gazette of the 1st December, 1916, revoking previous Proclamations, certain voyages were pro- claimed to be deemed short voyages and certain other voyages were proclaimed to be deemed long voyages for the purposes of the said Act and Ordinance ;

AND WHEREAS by Proclamation No. 6 published in the Hong Kong Government Gazette of the 14th July, 1939, it was declared that for the purposes of the said Act and Ordinance the voyage of any ship from Hong Kong or from any port in China or within 100 miles of the coast thereof to the port of Saigon in French Indo-China shall be deemed to be à short voyage of more than 7 days duration but not exceeding 30 days duration:

AND WHEREAS it is expedient that the last named Pro- clamation should be revoked:

Now THEREFORE I, the said Governor, do hereby PROCLAIM and DECLARE that the Proclamation No. 6 published in the Hong Kong Government Gazette of the 14th July, 1939, is REVOKED.
