(E) Social Hygiene Centres.
186. Following upon the receipt of representations from the Naval and Military Authorities with regard to the prevalence of venereal diseases in Hong Kong, His Excellency appointed a committee in 1938 to investigate and report upon the situation and to submit recommendations.
187. The report was completed early in 1939 and received very careful consideration by Government. One of the decisions arrived at was to strengthen the medical services available to the general community and, more especially, to the prostitute class. Additional staff and accommodation will be available for this work early in 1940.
