5. Sources of Supply. Sand was collected from 25 beaches of the Colony, namely Tai Lam Chung, Chu Lei Kok Island, Too Ti Wan, Ha Mei Wan, Oppo. Military Wharf (Stanley), Lo Yo La (Castle Peak Rd.), Gin Drinkers Bay, Tap Siap Kok, N. Soko, Tai Ku Chau Island, Lo Shu Shing, Sui So, Tai Mui Bay, Shan Chau, S. Soko, Cheung Sha Lan, Cheng Hum Wan, Tai Long W. side, So Kun Wat, Causeway Bay Shelter, Tung Wan, Ma Wan Island, I Pak, Shek Ku Chau, Silver Mine Bay, and from nullahs and stream course where accumulations were of a suitable sand deposit.

6. Storage. Depôts for the storage and issuing of sand were maintained at Wanchai water front for the Island and Hung Hom and Tsun Wan for the Mainland.

7. Requisitions and Deliveries. Approximately 5,000 requisitions from the public and Government departments were dealt with during the year, supplies being by collection by the purchaser from the nearest depôt or direct from the supply contractors' junks when quantities and landing points were considered reasonable.

8. Contravention of Ordinance. There were 18 cases taken against persons contravening one or more sections of the Ordinance, 16 persons were convicted, 5 bound over and 1 discharged.

(C.) FURNITURE.

1. Staff. Under the Controller of Stores the staff was comprised of one European officer, a monthly average of 67 non-European daily-paid workmen, and one monthly paid non-European clerk.

2. Expenditure. During the year the following work was carried out,

3. Workshop Orders. Approximately 10,000 articles were made in the workshop during the year, to clear 1823 orders received.

4. Accommodation. On the Island the furniture workshop and store was centralised at Arsenal Street and a furniture store at Hung Hom was maintained for the Mainland.

5. Incidental Work. During the year normal work proceeded on checking of inventories, inspection of all Government safes, inspection, cleaning and restoration when necessary of the Chater Picture and Porcelain collections and the storage, cutting and distribution of firewood to Government departments. Rough timber for supply as firewood, was received from the Botanical & Forestry Department.
