WATER WORKS.

137. Back Lane Service Pipes:-Twelve new or extended services were put in. This involved the laying of 466 feet of 3″, 1,378 feet of 2″ and 307 feet of 1¼″ wrought iron piping. Sixty-eight new house services were connected to these and existing subsidiary mains.

138. Stanley Water Supply:-This work, which was described in detail in paragraph 143 of last year's Report, was completed satisfactorily early in the year.

139. Repulse Bay Water Supply:-Towards the end of the year, a contract was signed and work started on the construction of a new service reservoir for this supply. Situated within 100 yards of the existing tank, it will, when completed, have a storage capacity of 56,000 gallons with a top water level of 489 O.D. The walls, level and sloping inverts were of mass concrete and were completed by the end of the year. Work was started on the roof, which is of reinforced concrete, beam and slab design, carried on two reinforced concrete columns. No division wall was allowed for owing to the proximity of the existing tank, which will be retained for emergency use.

140. Blue Pool Road-Relaying 6″ Main:-Consequent on the abandonment of the old Blue Pool intake and the construction of a new nullah intake described in paragraph 133 of last year's Report, it was found necessary to relay a portion of the main on a new alignment; the old 6″ cast iron pipe in Blue Pool Road was abandoned. The following was laid in Sing Wo Road:-144 feet of 5″ cast iron, 379 feet of 4″ and 1,825 feet of 3″ wrought iron piping.

PORT WORKS.

141. Extension of Reclamation at North Point:-This work was referred to in paragraph 144 of last year's Report. The building of 1,168 feet of sea wall to a height of eight feet six inches above Ordnance Datum and 400 feet of invert and nullah wall was completed satisfactorily in July.
