77. Maintenance of Telephones:-Lines and instruments, including those of the Kowloon-Canton Railway, were maintained in good order.

78. Maintenance of Sewers, Nullahs, etc:-Sewers, storm water drains and trained nullahs were cleansed, repaired and maintained in good condition. Open channels and nullahs were cleansed by the Sanitary Department. Sand deposits, as these accumulated, were removed. Many defective traps, gullies, gratings, etc. were replaced.

79. Street Lighting:-The total number of gas lamps in use at the end of the year, all of which were incandescent, was 581. 682 electric street lamps were in use, an increase of one lamp over the previous year. No extension of street lighting was carried out. Owing to delay in preliminary negotiations the improvement to lighting in Nathan Road which it was intended to carry out was not commenced.

80. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages:-Repairs to practically all Government buildings of varying magnitude were carried out. Land slips occurred in cuttings on various roads. A number of street lamps were also affected. Sand and silt were removed from nullahs at Cemetery Valley, Gascoigne Road; Mong Kok and Waterloo Road. Damages to the wall at the outfall of Nanchang Street nullah and to an outfall at the end of nullah north of Kowloon Marine Lot No. 72 To Kwa Wan were made good.
Repairs were also carried out to the following piers:- Kowloon Point Public, Ma Tau Kok Cattle, Ma Tau Kok Refuse, Hung Hom Store and Mong Kok Ferry. Minor repairs were made to Yaumati Waterworks Depot and other Waterworks buildings.
Damages to electric lights and wiring at Kowloon markets, Royal Observatory, Kowloon Disinfecting Station, Yaumati Slipway, Kowloon City Ferry Pier, Kai Tak Hangar and Kowloon-Canton Railway Pier and Quarters were made good.
