Mount Cameron Road, Mount Davis Road, Pokfulam Road, Sassoon Road, Stubbs Road and Wanchai Gap. A further eighteen lamps in Tregunter Path were extinguished at 2 a.m.
Traffic control lanterns and traffic beacon lights were maintained in good order.

61. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages:- Repairs of varying magnitude were carried out to practically all Government buildings. Minor landslides were common and entailed a considerable amount of excavation and trimming to prevent recurrences. Sand, silt and boulders were removed from nullahs, culverts and channels. Damages were made good to various septic tanks and channels.
Repairs were carried out to the following piers: - Arsenal Street, Blake, Fenwick Street, Green Island Lighthouse, Murray, Queen's, Sai Wan Ho and Wilmer Street. Damages to seawalls and other marine structures were also made good. A considerable number of public street gas lamps were also affected. Damages to electric lights and wiring at Government Schools, Police and Wireless Stations, Queen Mary Hospital, Gaol at Stanley, Senior Officers' Quarters at the Peak and markets were repaired. Numerous telephone poles and lines on the island of Hong Kong also required replacement or repair.

62. Maintenance of City and Hill District Water Works:- The year opened with a constant supply, but on 15th February the supply was limited to fifteen hours per day (6 a.m.-9 p.m.). With the exception of five days constant supply during the Coronation Celebrations, this restriction remained in force until 5th July. From 6th July until the end of the year a constant supply was given. During the year therefore, a constant supply was maintained for 229 days compared with 152 days in 1936.
The mainland supply was in operation throughout the year, 1,559.62 million gallons being delivered into the Garden Service Reservoir, equivalent to an average daily supply of 4.27 million gallons or 30.4% of the total island consumption.
The total quantity of water stored in the impounding reservoirs on 1st January amounted to 1,497.74 million gallons, of which 387.10 million gallons were in the gravitation reservoirs and 1,110.64 million gallons in the lower-level reservoirs requiring pumping. Storage reached a minimum on the 18th May when the total was 550.24 million gallons, 245.91 million gallons being in the gravitation reservoirs.
