Remarks.
A range of eight buildings about 120×50 feet, used as shops, stores and dwellings, and contents severely damaged by fire, heat and smoke, water and collapse.
One female suffocated in ground floor. 40 persons (viz., 22 females and 18 males) missing and presumed to have been drowned and washed into the harbour.
Thirty-eight matshed buildings (used as dwellings and pig stys) covering an area of about 200×75 feet and contents destroyed by fire, and eight houses of one and two floors (used as shops and dwellings) covering an area of about 150×100 feet and contents severely damaged by fire and roofs off.
A number of wood and corrugated iron sheds and timber yards covering an area of about 200×200 feet severely damaged by fire.
Of the premises involved in 124 actual fires which occurred, 29 were insured and 95 were not insured.
