216. Third Rapid Gravity Filters: An order for the Filtration Plant was placed through the Crown Agents with the Paterson Engineering & Co. in November 1935 for the sum of £9,440 f.o.b. London and delivery was effected by the end of the year.

In April a contract for $44,826.90 was let to the local contractors Messrs. Foo Loong for the construction of the Filters, Administration House and Staff Quarters. The preparation of the site took approximately four and a half months. By the end of December about half the work comprised in this contract had been completed.

VEHICLES FERRY.

217. Construction of Caissons off Ferry Piers at Jubilee Street and Jordan Road-This work was referred to in paragraph 208 of last year's Report. The external walls of the caissons were raised approximately 8'-0" at Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter and skeleton fendering was fixed before they were set in their respective positions at Jubilee Street and Jordan Road. The Jubilee Street caisson was towed by tug to the site on the afternoon of the 27th January and it was successfully sunk in position at 12.30 a.m. on the 28th January. The hearting was carried out continuously day and night and it was completed on the morning of the 30th January. The Jordan Road caisson was sunk in position at 12.30 a.m. on the 11th February and completed on the afternoon of the 13th February.
