103. Maintenance of Water Works, Lai Chi Kok:-The total quantity of water supplied during the year was 92.43 million gallons shewing a decrease of 3.21 million gallons on 1935 and an average consumption of 253,000 gallons per day.

Details of consumption are given in Table X.

Water Meters:-There were twenty-eight meters in use at the close of the year compared with twenty-seven in 1935. The number of meters examined and repaired during the year was twenty-eight.

105. Maintenance of Praya Walls and Piers:-The praya walls and piers were maintained in good condition. Apart from typhoon damage, repairs were effected to the Kowloon City and Shamshuipo ferry piers.

Two hoists on Shamshuipo Ferry Pier were maintained in good order.

106. Maintenance of Chinese Cemeteries:--Work carried out under this head is covered by paragraph 43 of the report.

NEW TERRITORIES.

107. Maintenance of Buildings:--Government buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colour-washing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to seven buildings. Owing to financial stringency, the programme work to fifteen other buildings was postponed. Major repairs included the following:-Cheung Chau Police Station-repairs to joinery, stoves, mosquito screens, and waterproofing to wall, Taipo Police Station-repairs to stoves and mosquito screens, Lok Ma Chau Police Station-renew joinery, colourwashing, etc., Taipo Island Quarters-repairs to roof and joinery, Military Hut Sha Tau Kok-repairs to roof, Shatin Police Station-repairs to joinery and mosquito screens.
