CONTOUR SURVEYS & LEVELLING.
Of the contour surveys at Mount Cameron and Little Hong Kong (mentioned in the 1934 Report) a further 5.74 acres were surveyed and a further 55.57 acres plotted.
A series of levels was taken over an extensive area at Shek Kong near Kam Tin. A grid of 150 ft. squares was set out and levels taken at these intervals—the area covered being about 265 acres. A number of Bench Marks were fixed.
Thirty-four cross-sections were also taken across the river traversing the above site.
Double levelling was carried out from Fundamental Bench Mark "F" a distance of 2.5 miles to establish a Bench Mark for above work.
A further area comprising 175 acres was levelled on similar lines to above at Fanling.
Nineteen Bench Marks were re-instated and re-valued and co-ordinate values obtained for four fundamental bench marks. The positions of bench marks in Hong Kong Island were ascertained and plotted on the Colony Survey Sheets.
The index (with values) of bench marks of the Colony was revised. It is hoped to have this together with the report on the levelling of the Colony printed shortly.
1:600 survey sheets were taken up during the year. The survey of Kowloon was reduced to a scale of 1:600 and traced, and revision of the 1:600 survey of Kowloon and New Kowloon was continued.
31. Large Scale Maps.—Thirty-two 1:2400 survey sheets were taken up during the year. A register of all survey sheets on the 1:600 and 1:2400 scales was compiled and a key wall map (2 inches to 1 mile) prepared. Apart from copies, of which there are a large number, 654 of the 1:600 sheet and seventy-three of the 1:2400 sheets have been taken up to-date, many of which have been completed.
