The training of Asiatic Inspectors was continued, seven Probationary Inspectors being engaged on 1st October.
2.-REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.
Table I shows the comparative statement of the Department's expenditure for the years 1934 and 1935.
Table II shows under the various heads the revenue collected by the Department during 1935 compared with 1934; and also the revenue paid into the Treasury in respect of contracts.
In view of the heavy expenditure incurred by the Government in maintaining the conservancy services of the Colony after the failure of the conservancy contractors for Hong Kong and Kowloon to carry out their contracts during the year 1934, it was considered that the whole of the deposit of $16,000 made by them should be forfeited.
The Government, however, made an ex gratia payment of the sum of $1,433 to the contractors.
Table III gives the comparative statement of revenue and expenditure for the last ten years.
