221. Removal of Trocas and Pinnacle Rocks:-This work was continued and at the end of the year, a total of 325 cubic yards of rock had been removed.

223. Fire Service to Victoria Hospital:-A 3" fire service main, off the 4" supply main from Mount Gough Tank to Barker Road, was laid on the hillside behind the hospital, and fire hydrants fixed at four points. As the 4" main is always charged the hydrants are kept continuously under pressure.

224. Fire Service Government Civil Hospital and Mental Hospital:-A 4" main was laid from the 18" unfiltered water main in High Street and connected to the existing internal fire service installations at the Government Civil Hospital and Mental Hospital. The hydrants are therefore continuously under pressure as the 18" main is always charged.

225. Green Island Gunpowder Depot, Fire Service :-This scheme involved pumping sea water to an elevated storage tank and providing a service main with fire hydrants at suitable points near the buildings. A 5/10 H.P. Universal "kerosene engine and a Universal" centrifugal pump were obtained from the Jardine Engineering Company and fixed in a brick and concrete pump house which was built on the existing pier near the entrance to the depot at about twelve feet above sea level. A 4" wrought iron suction main was laid alongside the pier to a point below low water level. A 3" wrought iron rising main was laid along the top of the sea wall, continued up the hillside, and connected to a 5,000 gallon concrete storage tank which was constructed at about ninety-five feet above sea level. Three fire hydrants were fixed at suitable points on the rising main and are thus continually under pressure from the tank.

226. Improving and Strengthening Main Roads, New Territories The road surface from the Fanling to Sha Tau Kok Cross Roads to Sheung Shui Railway Station via the Hunter's Arms, petrol station and Sheung Shui Market was strengthened and improved as also was the road surface from the Fanling to Sha Tau Kok Cross Roads to Level Crossing between Fanling and Sha Tau Kok Railway Station via Fanling Village. These works included the construction of margins, channels and surfacing with 4"/6" macadam tarpainted with chippings. The Kam Tin road was similarly improved.
