214. Widening of Garden Road :--Garden Road was widened from about the Helena May Institute to Macdonnell Road and a new type of non-skid slab footpath laid.

215. New 100-foot Road between Causeway Bay and Taikoo Sugar Refinery (2nd Section):-The widening and construction of a road 100 feet wide from near the Taikoo Sugar Refinery to the west of the Asiatic Petroleum Company's Installation at North Point, together with the surfacing of the remaining portion of the new road to Causeway Bay was commenced in September and progressed in a satisfactory manner.
The attendant laying of sewers and storm water drains for a length of 1,843 feet, the sizes varying from 51" to 6" in diameter together with numerous gully works also proceeded satisfactorily.

216. Sewer at North Point:-The laying of this sewer outfall was commenced early in September and completed in November. The length involved was 1,361 feet. The excavation for the foundations to the temporary septic tank was commenced late in December.

217. Reclamation at North Point:-For the reception of rubble blasted on the new Shaukiwan Road, a trench was dredged at North Point by Messrs. The Netherlands Harbour Works Company during November. About 56,403 cubic yards of silt were removed.

218. Botanical and Forestry Department Quarters and Store at Shamshuipo:-This work was referred to in paragraph 178 of last year's Report. The formation of the area was completed in February.

219. Improvements and extension of Hung Hom Ferry Pier: A length of approximately forty feet of the old pier was demolished and rebuilt, and an extension of approximately twenty-four feet in reinforced concrete was carried out. The contract was completed successfully.

220. Refuse Boat Pier and Live Stock Landing at Ma Tau Kok: The contract for this work was let in July. Good progress was made up to the end of the year. All dredging work was completed, and the formation of rubble mound together with the manufacture of cement concrete foundation blockwork was proceeding satisfactorily.
