The total quantity of water pumped from Tytam Tuk Reservoir during the year amounted to 1,326.69 million gallons, of which 1,310.94 million gallons were pumped by the Simpson Engines and 15.75 million gallons by the Tangye Engines. This total exceeded that of last year by 196.08 million gallons.

The total quantity of water supplied during the year amounted to 3,908.50 million gallons (this included 391.57 million gallons from the Mainland) filtered and 53.41 million gallons unfiltered, making a grand total of 3,961.91 million gallons, or 642.17 million gallons more than during 1933.

The average consumption of filtered water per head per day for all purposes throughout the year was about 27.5 gallons. In arriving at this figure, the population has been estimated at 390,000. Full details of consumption, etc., will be found in Tables V and VI.

918 tap samples of filtered water on the island were examined by the Government Bacteriologist with the following results:

796 showed B.C.C. absent in 50 C.C. (86.7%)
78 others were above standard (B.C.C. in 10 C.C.) (8.5%)
44 were below standard (4.8%)

These results compare favourably with those obtained in London and other British cities.

The analyses made by the Government Analyst showed that the water was of good quality.

The City supply was treated with five tons of liquid chlorine, which is equivalent to an average admixture of 0.817 of a part per million.

The total quantity of water pumped to the High Level Districts of the City was 199.65 million gallons, equivalent to an average daily consumption of about 547,000 gallons, whilst 70.29 million gallons were pumped to the Peak District, giving an average daily consumption of 193,000 gallons.

The turbines and pumping plant at Bowen Road worked satisfactorily during the year and delivered an average daily supply of 127,000 gallons to the High Level District.

Tabulated statements containing particulars of the quantities of water pumped to the High Levels of the City and to the Peak District respectively will be found in Table VII.
