61. The 119 girls attending the four Garrison Schools classed in Table I as not Controlled are included in the above figures under Unaided Schools.
TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
62. The Junior Technical School, which opened in Additional February, 1933, carried on according to programme. laboratories and class-rooms, needed for the full four years' course, were completed, and occupied during the year.
63. Working plans for a Trade School, where training in the Engineering and Building Trades will be given, were drawn up and preliminary work of site formation begun.
64. With the inauguration of these Technical Schools the Technical Institute (which arranges evening classes in a variety of subjects) will resume its old title of "Evening Continuation Classes or, to be exact, The Evening Institute"—at the opening of its new year in October next. This change of name does not, however, imply that the Institute will cease to provide technical classes. On the contrary, it will continue to do so, in addition to its other activities, with the advice and assistance of the Principal of the Junior Technical School.
## SCHOOL YEAR
65. In 1932 the decision was taken to change the opening date of the school year from 1st January to 1st September. The change has been effected by stages; and during the year under review the final step was taken, the school year opening, for the first time, on 1st September.
## EXAMINATIONS
66. No external school-leaving examination was held in the Colony this year, it having been decided to hold the new School Certificate Examination, under the auspices of the Hong Kong University, for the first time in June, 1935.
67. There were two Matriculation Examinations of the University of London, one in January and one in June.
68. One Bachelor of Arts Examination and one Intermediate Science Examination of the University of London were held in July. One Intermediate Laws Examination was held in September.
69. One Examination of the Royal Sanitary Institute was held in April.
70. There were two School Leaving Certificate Examinations of the University of Cambridge, one in July and one in December.
