229. Lady Ho Tung Infant Welfare Centre, Fanling.-This work was described in paragraph 190 of last year's report. The work proceeded satisfactorily during the year and was completed by November. The land and cost of the building were provided by Sir Robert Ho Tung.
230. Resurfacing Taipo Road from Tai Wai Level Crossing in the direction of Taipo.-Margins, and an additional layer of 4′ macadam, tarpainted and chipped, were laid between the 8 milestone, Tai Wai Level Crossing, and the 12 milestone, and improvements were made to the road alignment. The area covered was 49,000 square yards.

231. Improvements to Fanling Water Supply.-In order to improve pressure on the system generally the following works were carried out during the year:-A new intake was constructed at 286.59 O.D. approximately 76 feet above the then existing intake. A 5″ wrought iron pipe 575 feet in length was laid connecting the intake with the existing twin 3″ mains, cutting out the old strainer tank. A concrete strainer tank controlled by a ball cock and a steel storage tank of 30,000 gallons capacity, both having a T.W.L. of 229 O.D., were built on the hill near the 8th green, old course, 520 feet of 5″ cast iron main being laid as a feed from the existing system to the strainer tank. Twin discharge pipes consisting of 737 feet of 4″ wrought iron piping were provided from the storage tank and connected up with the existing golf club and village system. In addition 140 feet of 3″ wrought iron piping were laid as a bye-pass to the two tanks.

232. Water Supply to Sheung Shui Police Station.-4,120 feet of 2″ wrought iron piping were laid from the Fanling cross roads to Sheung Shui Police Station.

233. Formation of Dumping Ground at Kun Tong.-Instructions to proceed with this work were received on 4-11-33. A series of guide pile stagings and frames were erected and a survey was completed.

234. Archaeological Operations, Hami Wan Beach, Lamma Island. Explorations of an archaeological nature were undertaken in the large deposit of sand at this beach under the direction of the Rev. Father Finn, S.J., this Department providing all the plant, tools, labour, etc., necessary for the execution of the work.
