ANTI-MALARIAL WORKS.

147. Permanent Training of Nullahs.-Throughout the year work was continued in the Mount Parker Area, Quarry Bay; at Stanley, where no further progress is possible pending formation of the New Gaol Site; and in the Sookunpoo and Lyeemun districts. A commencement was made late in the year at Kowloon Tong. Streams were trained to lengths of 27,812 feet as open channels varying in size from 39′′ x 39′′ to 9′′ x 9′′ culverts from 63" diameter to 30" diameter, and rubble-walled nullahs in the following sizes-13′6′′ x 13'0" partially trained for a length of 629 feet, 6'0" x 4'9" for 931 feet, 6'0" x 4′0′′ for 60 feet and 5′6′′ x 3′6′′ for 242 feet.

BUILDINGS.

148. Magistracy at Yaumati.-This work was referred to in paragraph 132 of last year's Report. A revised sketch plan was prepared and the main amendment was the substitution of two flats for one large flat. A site adjoining King's Park at Gascoigne Road was acquired from the Military Authorities. Working drawings were commenced but these had to be deferred owing to shortage of staff.

149. Kowloon Hospital Additions. This work was described in paragraph 184 of last year's Report. The work proceeded very satisfactorily and the M.O's Quarters and "C" Block were completed in December, three months before contract time. The Nurses' Quarters were nearing completion by the end of the year.

"C" Block, Medical Officer's Quarters and Nurses' Quarters were wired for electric light, power and fans. Total number of points, four hundred and sixty-three. Five telephones were installed, and wiring for broadcast receivers.

150. Ma Tau Kok Cattle Depot Lairage. This work was described in paragraph 186 of last year's Report. The work proceeded satisfactorily and was completed on the 29th March.
