45. The following is a summary of the works carried out during the year under this vote:--
HONG KONG.
46. Maintenance of Buildings.-Government Buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to ninety-four buildings. Major repairs included the following:-Victoria Gaol Indian Mess Room-renewal of wood floor in P.C. Concrete, Victoria Gaol Laundry-repairs to flues, Central Magistracy-renewal of W.C. Doors, Government House Servants Quarters-fixing of patent roofing, Central Market--covering of the North Dome with patent roofing, Colonial Secretariat-extensive repairs to sun blinds, Homestead Flats and Quarters-repairs to Drainage System, resurfacing of the back yard, renewal of ladders to roof and repairs, Mountain Lodge-Repairs to Paths and Channels and external painting, Gough Hill Police Station-repairs to verandah windows, channels and roof, 403 Severn Road-repairs to Tennis Court, 525 The Peak-renewal of Canvas Sunshades, Peak School-repairs to Eaves Gutters, Magazine Gap Police Station-removal of ceiling boards and repairs, King's College-surfacing and channels to yard, Government Civil Hospital "C" Block—renewal of bathroom floor in concrete and repairs to drainage and verandah roofs, "B" Block-construction of a concrete staircase, West End Park Quarters-repairs to Drainage, Hospital Road Coolie Quarters-renewed floors in concrete, Bacteriological Institute-new ceiling to Office, Kennedy Town Hospital--verandah roofs covered with Malthoid, Mental Hospital-padding to cells renewed, Belchers Street Coolie Quarters-renewal of Malthoid roof, Leighton Hill Quarters-renewal of concrete surfacing to yard and kitchen at No. 9 and repairs to floors at No. 6, Queen's Gardens--repairs to roofs and ceilings, Mounted Infantry Stables repairs to roofs, Shaukiwan Market-repairs to surface channels, Ventris Road Quarters-provision of bamboo fence, Aplichau Latrine-repairs, Aberdeen Harbour Office-fixing of wire netting to verandah, Hong Kong-provision of recall signals for Police Patrols at various Police Stations.
Repairs due to white ant damage were carried out at the following buildings:-Mountain Lodge, Lysholt, Government Villas, Gough Hill Police Station, 152, 153 and 463 The Peak, Homestead Flats, Colonial Secretariat, New Fire Station, Harbour Office, Ellis Kadoorie School, Kennedy Town Sheep, Swine and Cattle Depots, Aberdeen Market, Villa Miramere, Queen's Gardens Flats, Leighton Hill Quarters, Happy Valley Quarters, Wanchai Market, Government Civil Hospital-"C" Block and Staff Quarters, Mental Hospital, Kennedy Town Hospital, Sanitary Board Office Pokfulum Road, Bacteriological Institute, Staunton Street Market and No. 7 Police Station.
