(2) Open Space, Praya East.—A plan and estimates for the development of this area as a public park with children's playground was prepared. Alternative plans and estimates for partial development were also submitted.
(3) Public Square, Yaumati.—A scheme was prepared for the development of this area as an open-air market to replace the existing unsightly stalls.
(4) Shek O Village.—Two plans, one showing formal and the other showing informal development, were prepared, to cover possible future extension of the village.
(5) Stanley Village.—Two alternative schemes for the development of Stanley Village were submitted to allow for future expansion, and to fit in with extensive development of adjoining areas.
(6) Hung Hom.—A plan was prepared for the undeveloped area adjoining Hung Hom. Included in the scheme were proposals for the redevelopment on more open lines of the congested area of Hung Hom.
40. In addition to the above, a financial statement was prepared regarding the proposals submitted last year for the development of the area known as Whitfield Barracks.
41. Sketch plans were prepared for a Health Centre at Wanchai; extension to the Police Recreation Club, Happy Valley, and for the Sisters' and Nurses' Quarters at the New Government Civil Hospital.
42. Estimates of cost and rough sketches for a number of projected buildings and alterations were prepared as follows: Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station—alterations and additions; Yaumati Police Station—Garages; New Infectious Diseases Hospital, Kowloon; two Postal Kiosks; Retail Market at Wong Nei Cheong; Vegetable Market, Wanchai; Revenue Officers' Quarters at Sheung Shui; School at Sham Shui Po; Infant Welfare Centre, Kowloon; additional Quarters at Peak Wireless Station; Ricksha Shelter at Jubilee Street Ferry; H.K.V.D.C. Headquarters—additions and garages; Latrines at Shaukiwan, Portland Street, Pokfulum Road, and Tai Hang; Temporary Fire Station at Sham Shui Po; Temporary Post Office, Kowloon; and a Store at Hung Hom.

EXPENDITURE.
43. The expenditure on Public Works has grown very considerably during the last three decades. The average annual expenditure during the years 1904 to 1913 was $1,969,550; from 1914 to 1923, it was $3,744,100, whilst from 1924 to 1933, the average annual expenditure has been $8,670,850.
44. Tables I, II, and III at the end of this Report give various comparative statements of expenditure.
