REPORT BY THE INSPECTORS OF VERNACULAR SCHOOLS.

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.

Vernacular Middle School-Head Teacher, Mr. Li King Hong, B.A. The maximum enrolment was 253 and the average attendance was 235-an increase of twenty.

2. Consequent on the change at the University with regard to its Chinese School, students in this school are now entered for the Matriculation instead of the "Special Examination". The classes have been reorganized, and there are now 2 Higher Primary and 6 Middle School Standards; pupils in the highest standard work for the "Higher Chinese" syllabus here but attend classes at King's College for certain English subjects.

3. "Kwok Yu" has been added to the curriculum, and a new teacher of "Kwok Yu" was appointed in January, who divides his time between this school and the Vernacular Normal School for Women.

4. At the University Examination held in November, both of the 2 students presented were successful. In the Normal School Division, fifteen out of seventeen passed their Final Examination. Two former pupils who entered the University in 1929 took their B.A. degree this year after having both in the previous year received the diploma of the University School of Chinese Studies.

5. The school won the Senior Championship of the Hong Kong School Volley Ball League. Basket-ball and Ping Pong were also played.

6. Vernacular Normal School for Women. Headmistress, Miss Chan Yat Hing. The maximum enrolment was 169, and the average attendance was 158. Nine out of thirteen passed the Final Examination.

7. "Kwok Yu" which was added to the curriculum at the beginning of the year has been taught with satisfactory results. A course of lectures on Hygiene was given by Miss Sham, one of the school nurses. Physical Training has been given by Miss Swift who spends one morning a week in the school.

8. Taipo Vernacular Normal School-Head Teacher, Mr. Chan Pun Chiu. Maximum enrolment was 45. Average attendance 37. Eight out of ten students passed their Final Examination.
