REPORT BY THE INSPECTORS OF ENGLISH SCHOOLS.

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.

Queen's College.-Headmaster, Mr. F. J. de Rome, B.Sc. The maximum monthly enrolment was 626. The average attendance was 582-an increase of 38. The accommodation of the College hardly permits of a further increase.

2. At the external examinations held in November by the University of Hong Kong twenty obtained Matriculation Certificates (one with honours) and four obtained Senior Local Certificates. One was accepted as a student-teacher-in-training at the University and one won a Donor's Scholarship.

3. Provision was made for all the usual school games. An innovation was the introduction of Badminton and Quoits in the hall for the benefit of the staff. The Scout Troop under the leadership of Mr. R. R. Campbell had a thorough training.

4. King's College.-Headmaster, Mr. A. Morris, A.C.P. The maximum monthly enrolment was 982 and the average attendance was 905-an increase of 17.

5. At the University Examination 47 matriculated and four obtained Senior Local certificates. There were twenty Distinctions and five Honours. One boy won the King Edward VII Scholarship, seven were accepted as student-teachers-in-training. One gained the Montargis French prize. These results were very gratifying, but against this must be recorded the low percentage of passes in the Class 4 examination which tests boys passing from the Lower to the Higher School.

6. Some good furniture and models were made by the Carpentry Classes under the expert guidance of Bro. Fino. Instruction in Photography was given by Mr. Yeap. Mr. Chan Sik Pui trained two Life-Saving classes with the result that fifty boys gained bronze medals and certificates awarded by the Royal Life Saving Society. The School Ambulance Division was controlled by Mr. Leung Sui Sang. The Boy Scouts Troop was led by Mr. J. J. Ferguson. The Class Libraries and the School Reading Room were reorganised by Mr. Sims and Mr. Crozier.

7. Considerable additions were made to the Chemistry and Physics Laboratories to meet the growing demands of the school. An Epidiascope and a Microscope were purchased. Additions to the School Museum included an alligator's skull from Borneo, 17 specimens of timber from Java and a wallaby skin from Queensland.
