71. I have referred to Class 4 Examination of the Department in paragraph 44 and the results of the Technical Institute and Normal School Examinations will be found in Chapters IV and V.
72. There were two Matriculation Examinations of the University of London, one in January and one in June.
73. One Intermediate Arts Examination and one Intermediate Science Examination of the University of London were held in July. One Intermediate Laws Examination was held in September.
74. One Examination of the Royal Sanitary Institute was held during the year.
75. There were two School Leaving Certificate Examinations of the University of Cambridge, one in July and one in December.
76. An examination for the Corporation of Accountants, Glasgow, was held in November.
# HEALTH.
77. Dr. Minett resigned on departure for England on 10th May, and Dr. Au King performed her work throughout the rest of the year.
A second Chinese Medical Officer of Schools, Dr. Wong Hok Nin, was appointed in January. The three school nurses worked throughout the year.
78. 1,257 new entrants in the schools were examined, and 640 defects found. 1,524 were re-inspected for defects, of which 726 had improved.
79. 302 cases of defective vision were seen; 228 pairs of spectacles were provided.
80. The first school clinic at Ellis Kadoorie School and the second at Yaumati School were supplemented by a third at Junior Technical School. In the three clinics, 3,953 examinations and treatments have been given.
81. The school nurses paid 300 visits to the homes of 228 cases and tested 2,033 children for vision defects.
82. Notified cases of infectious disease in all schools totalled 76. No serious epidemic occurred in any school.
83. All Government, Grant-in-Aid, and boarding school premises were inspected regularly.
84. Lectures on Hygiene were given in the Technical Institute, classes being formed for both English and Vernacular Teachers.
85. A Health Exhibition was held in November, when short lantern slide demonstrations on various health subjects were given, and posters, models, etc. shown. A health play to arouse interest was presented by the pupils of the Belilios Public School. Over 2,000 attended the exhibition.
