## 30. The Chinese Hospitals

--Tung Wah, Tung Wah Eastern and Kwong Wah--are hospitals which are maintained by the Tung Wah Charity Organisation, a purely Chinese body. These institutions, which are assisted by Government, are under inspection by the Government Medical Department. Each has as its Medical Superintendent a Chinese Medical Officer who is paid by Government. The Medical staff consists of Chinese Medical Officers, qualified in Western Medicine, and Chinese Herbalists. The patient is given his choice of treatment.

## 31. Tung Wah Infectious Diseases Hospital

--Situated in Kennedy Town and adjacent to the Government Infectious Diseases Hospital is the Tung Wah Infectious Diseases Hospital, an institution containing 30 beds where 60 patients could be accommodated at a pinch. The treatment here is left almost entirely to the herbalists. During the year there were 137 patients, as compared with 77 in the preceding year.
