74. Water Account (Meters, etc.).—There were 7,242 meters in use at the close of the year as compared with 5,696 in 1931. The number of meters examined and repaired during the year was 1,579 of which 16 were tested in accordance with Regulation 9 of the Water Works Ordinance 16 of 1903.

75. Maintenance of Praya Walls and Piers.—The Praya Walls and Piers were maintained in a satisfactory condition throughout the year. Extensive repairs were carried out to the Eastern Arm of the Mong Kok Tsui Harbour of Refuge, also to Public Square Street Pier. Minor repairs were effected to the following works:-Mong Kok Tsui, Police, Government Slipway, Railway, Fire Float, Hung Hom and Waterloo Road Piers and Saigon Street Refuse Boat Station.

78. Maintenance of Buildings.—Government buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to eleven buildings. Major repairs included the following:-Lai Chi Kok Prison—Repairs to boundary fence and barbed wire, Alterations to hot water system. Extensive repairs to windows and white ant damage.

79. Improvements to Buildings.—The principal improvements carried out under this head were as follows:-Kowloon City Market—new iron grilles, Kowloon City Police Station—erect wall between European and Indian Quarters and form doorway, Kowloon City Old Post Office—rebuild cockloft.
