In the interests of economy an arrangement was made with the Hong Kong & China Gas Co. that, throughout the year, a number of lamps, ninety in all, in Chatham Path, Craigmin Road, Kotewall Road, Magazine Gap Road, Monmouth Path, Fo Shan Road, Peak Road, Victoria Road and Watson Road were extinguished at twelve midnight instead of at the times specified in the Gas Street Lighting Agreement.

49. Electric Lighting, City, Hill District and Shaukiwan. Traffic control lights in City, forty-two in number, maintained in working order.
The total number of lamps in use at the end of the year in the City, Outside City and Peak Districts was as follows:-
Street lamps etc. Fier Lamps Traffic Lights 766 36 Public Latrines 4 104In addition to these, the Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Co. of Hong Kong, provides ten lamps, each having a cluster of three-100 C.P. incandescent lamps for lighting the road adjacent to their property, and the Taikoo Sugar Refinery Co. also provides and lights seven 2000 C.P. incandescent lamps for road adjacent to their property.
An arrangement, similar to that made with the Hong Kong and China Gas Co. for the extinguishing at twelve midnight of a number of street lamps, was made with the Hong Kong Electric Co. The following were the roads affected:- Bowen Road, Brewin Path, Homestead Path, Lugard Road, Magazine Gap Road, Mount Davis Road, Mount Cameron Road, Pokfulam Road, Sassoon Road, Stubbs Road and Tregunter Path. In all 318 lamps came under the arrangement.

50. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages. Following the typhoons repairs of varying magnitude were carried out under this head to the following buildings. These repairs were chiefly confined to roofs and joinery- Mountain Lodge, Leighton Hill Quarters, Veniris Road Quarters, Wongneichong Road Quarters, Queen's Gardens, Volunteer Defence Corps Stables at Sookunpoo, Mount Parish Quarters, Mental Hospital, Ellis Kadoorie School, Upper Levels Police Station, Stanley Police Station, Victoria Gaol Warders Quarters, Beaconsfield Arcade, Central Police Station-Married and Single Inspectors Quarters, Belilios Public School, Government Civil Hospital, Kennedy Town Slaughter Houses, Quarry Bay School, Sai Wan Ho Market, Gough Hill Police Station, Homestead Flats and Houses, 157, 361, 406, 465 and 525 The Peak, Government Pavilions, Pinewood Bungalow, Government Villas, and Chair Coolie Shelter
