## UNAIDED SCHOOLS

65. Statistics of these schools will be found in Inspectors' Reports and Tables I and II.

66. The English Schools show a further decrease from 120 to 114 but as these institutions are of small cultural value it is not to be regretted.

67. It is hoped that more of the private schools for teaching English will avail themselves of the Examination for Entrance to Class 3 in Queen's College or King's College and not continue to maintain for small upper classes staff which would be better employed with a larger number of boys doing elementary work.

## SCHOOLS For Girls

68. Of the 70,579 children under instruction in the schools of the Colony during 1932, 21,815 or rather more than 30% of the whole were attending schools for girls or were girls attending mixed schools.

69. Of the 1,117 in provided schools 258 were in the mixed schools for British children. The Technical Institute accounted for 162. There were 169 in attendance at the Vernacular Normal School for Women and the remainder 528 were at the Belilios Public School.

70. The 118 girls attending the two Garrison Schools classed in Table I as not Controlled are included in the above figures under Unaided Schools.

71. New Girl Guide Companies were formed in the Victoria Home and in St. Mary's Convent School during the year. Established Companies carried on in Central British School, Belilios Public School, St. Paul's College for Girls, Mooi Fong School, the Italian Convent School, and the Diocesan Girls School. There were Brownie Packs at Quarry Bay School, Belilios Public School, St. Paul's College for Girls and the Diocesan Girls School. The Ranger Company was given up during the year and an Officers' Training Class started. Prince of Wales's Banner was won by the 1st Kowloon Company (Central British School).
