REPORT OF THE HEAD OF THE SANITARY DEPARTMENT.
DEPARTMENTAL STAFF.
Senior Officers: ---
Dr. G. W. Pope and Dr. K. C. Yeo served throughout the year as the Medical Officer of Health and the Assistant Medical Officer of Health respectively. Mr. W. J. E. Mackenzie resumed duty as Colonial Veterinary Surgeon on 18th May. Mr. M. J. Reidy acted as Colonial Veterinary Surgeon until 17th May and thereafter resumed duty as Assistant Colonial Veterinary Surgeon.
Mr. B. C. K. Hawkins acted as Assistant Head of the Sanitary Department from 1st January to 5th May.
Mr. E. Himsworth acted as Assistant Head of the Sanitary Department from 6th May to 31st December.
Inspectors :--
(i) Establishments:
The establishment was decreased by one second-class Inspector. The numbers of Inspectors on duty on 1st January, 1st July, and 31st December were 52, 44, and 46 respectively (Senior Inspectors included).
(ii) Qualifications:-
(a) Technical.
i. At an examination held locally on 14th January, 1932, seven Inspectors were recommended for the Royal Sanitary Institute certificates as Sanitary Inspectors. Every Inspector (with the exception of six recently joined men) now holds this certificate;
ii. On the same date, seven Inspectors (out of seven entrants) were recommended for the Royal Sanitary Institute certificate in Sanitary Science. Including these seven, fifteen Inspectors now hold this certificate.
iii. Four Inspectors hold the Royal Sanitary Institute certificate and two the certificate of the Liverpool University School of Hygiene as Inspectors of Meat and Other Foods.
