PRINCIPAL WORKS OF A PRIVATE NATURE COMPLETED OR IN PROGRESS.
336. Praya East Reclamation.-Rapid progress in the development of the Praya East Reclamation continued throughout the year. 293 Chinese houses, plans for which were approved in 1930 have been completed. In addition 34 plans for 375 Chinese houses were approved during 1931 and of these 67 houses were completed while 252 were in course of erection. The total number of houses completed here during the year was 360, making a total of 608 since the development of the area commenced. Amongst "Other Buildings" completed was a large Tea House and Restaurant, a Godown, a Garage, and a Service Station, Workshops and Showrooms. Plans were approved for and work started on a Cinema, Petrol Filling Station and Store, a Godown and the New Seamen's Institute.
337. Deep Water Bay.-During the year seven European houses were completed and four more were in course of erection. The total number of houses erected to the end of 1931 was eighteen.
