34. Mr. A. O. Brawn sat on the Board during the absence on leave of Mr. A. R. Sutherland and Mr. J. Ralston acted as Secretary.
35. At the end of 1930 the Board was invited to review the existing education system and make recommendations in respect of future policy.
36. Various fields of educational work in the colony were explored and the Board's deliberations resulted in a considerable overhaul of the system. It was found possible to implement several of the Board's recommendations during last year and others are to become effective in 1932.
37. Among the more important recommendations which have been made effective were an increase in the financial aid given to aided schools and radical alteration in the method of assisting Grant in Aid English schools. Examination grants have been abolished and overdue recognition accorded to the greater expenses involved in the conduct of boys' schools than of schools for girls.
PROVIDED SCHOOLS-BRITISH.
38. The total number of children enrolled in these five (mixed) schools was 515 as compared with 458 in 1930.
39. The usual meetings between the teachers in charge of British schools were held in 1931.
40. The good work done in the British schools is again evidenced by the satisfactory reports received about children who have proceeded to Europe for further education,
