(1) Faeces.-One hundred and thirty-two specimens of faeces were cultured for the presence of pathogenic enteric organisms. No positive culture of cholera was obtained. The results otherwise show that the common infecting dysentery organism in the Colony is of the Flexner type: Shiga infections are decidedly rare. There are also a great number of infections with organisms difficult of classification but nevertheless pathogenic and probably the cause of a good deal of morbidity.
(2) Sputum.—Two hundred and thirty specimens of sputum were examined for the presence of B. tuberculosis. In all cases, the anti-form concentration method was used and the ordinary Ziehl-Neelsen stain made.
