A range of nine buildings of one and two floors and six matsheds (used as shops and dwellings) and contents burned and fallen down (adjoining). Jan. 17 21.30 Bonham Strand East. Bamboo Ware dealers. 1 A building of three floors about 30 x 15 ft. (used as workrooms, office, and dwelling), upper floor and contents severely damaged by fire, and part of roof off, rest of building and contents damaged by fire, heat, smoke, water and breakage. Jan. 22 22.14 Lying off Texas Company's pier, Gin Drinker's Bay. Cargo Junk No. 1105. 1 A cargo junk laden with 4,900 cases (i.e. 4,900 gallons) of petrol and kerosine, burned out and sunk. Four persons are supposed to have perished. Bodies not recovered. Other members of the crew received burns before escaping from the junk. Mar. 12 01.36 12 Smithfield, Kennedy Town. Joss Paper and fire cracker shop. 1 4 A building of four floors about 100 x 15 ft, used as shop and dwelling severely damaged by fire, heat, smoke and water, and rear half of roof off.
