94. Interest on Loan and Special Expenditure and other items for the current year were included in the Income Account and the balance carried to Profit and Loss Account, this balance standing at $379,955.53 being transferred to Surplus Appropriation Account. The accumulated deficit at the end of the year was $7,358,179.58.
MEDICAL.
95. Dr. John Edward Dovey, M.B. Ch.B. Edinburgh, continued to hold the appointment of Railway Medical Officer in addition to his other duties.
96. During the year the following number of accidents were recorded, as compared with the previous year :--
Fatal Non-fatal Total 1929 2 8 10 1928 2 22 2497. The annual eyesight and physical examinations were carried out and showed a noticeable improvement on the previous year's records of general physical fitness.
98. First Aid lectures and practices were continued and at the annual examination 32 out of 34 candidates passed as against 21 out of 27 for the previous year.
99. The results of the First Aid work was amply demonstrated on various occasions when members of the staff did excellent work. For saving the life of a female passenger in front of moving train, and sustaining severe injury himself through the act, Station Master Lau Kau was presented with the Belilios Medal and ribbon given, with an honorarium of $100, for conspicuous valour, devotion or self denial.
STAFF.
100. Mr. C. D. Lambert, Chief Mechanical Engineer, proceeded on long leave on 24th March, and returned to duty on 12th December, Mr. J. Smith, Assistant Mechanical Engineer, acting in his stead during his absence.
101. Mr. I. B. Trevor, Assistant Traffic Manager, proceeded on long leave on 2nd February and returned to duty on 10th October, Mr. G. A. Walker carrying out his duties in his absence, in addition to his own.
102. Mr. W. S. Cuff, Traffic Inspector, was absent for long leave from March 30th to the end of the year.
