3. REGISTERED ARTICLES AND PARCELS.

The number of registered articles handled amounted to 848,135 as compared with 806,980 in 1928—an increase of 41,155.

The figures for insured letters were 19,050 and 17,430 respectively—an increase of 1,620.

Full details are shown in Table II.

The number of parcels handled during the year was 411,165 as against 423,880 in 1928—a decrease of 12,815.

The decrease is on account of a smaller number of parcels being posted in Hong Kong for dispatch to other administrations and the office of Wei Hai Wei being instructed to close direct parcel mails to India during 1928.

There was however an increase in the number of parcels received for delivery locally.

Full details are shown in Table III.
