229. Shing Mun Valley Waterworks Scheme
(a.) Preparations of sites for the inhabitants of resumed area in connection with the above. The work consisted of the preparation of 2 sites situated at (a) Kam Tin, (b) Shek Kong.
A contract for this work was let on 21st May, 1928 to Messrs. Shun Tai & Co. for a sum of $4,682.00.
The Kam Tin area which covers 220,000 square feet provided sites for 125 village houses and the Shek Kong area of 97,900 square feet for 18 houses and one temple.
By the end of the year these sites were completed and taken over by the District Officer North.
Expenditure, $4,303.79
(b.) Filtration Plant and Erection.-This work was referred to in paragraph 201 (b) of last year's Report.
Good progress was made with the construction of the intricate reinforced concrete work of the beds and Chemical House and by the end of May the shells of the eight filter beds had been completed while the framework of the Chemical House was completed by the end of August.
Concurrently with the construction of the reinforced concrete structure, the erection of machinery and piping was proceeded with and steady progress enabled preliminary trials to be run in October.
Thirty-two electric light and plug points were installed.
By the end of the year the whole installation had been satisfactorily completed and tested.
