47. Two 30-ton covered goods wagons were converted into fish wagons for the conveyance of live fish between Canton and Kowloon.
48. Two 30-ton and one 15-ton covered goods wagons were converted into cattle wagons.
49. Thirty-six wagons were given overhauls and fifty-one were repainted.
50. One 30-ton covered goods wagon was temporarily converted into living quarters for the use of engine crews stationed at Canton at night in connection with the haulage of through express trains.
51. In October the British Section was asked by the Chinese Section to give them assistance in repairing their wagon stock, as in consequence of labour troubles in Canton they found it impossible to undertake it themselves. On satisfactory arrangements being made regarding payment for this work, 40 Chinese Section wagons were sent down, and 7 completely reconditioned wagons were released by the end of the year. Separate labour gangs were engaged and no interference with British Section work was permitted.
52. A considerable amount of work was turned out in the Motor department for other Government departments and servants. This included two steel tipping bodies for motor dust carts; a wood-lined steel body for a wireless motor truck and fitting a self-starter for an armoured car, for the Volunteer Defence Corps; and various repairs etc. to Fire Brigade appliances.
53. All the machines in the Workshops were overhauled and repainted.
ACCIDENTS.
54. There were 22 accidents of a more or less serious nature, and into the causes of which enquiries were held, which included the following:
Engine derailments 2 Coach derailments 2 Wagon derailments 2 Collisions 3 Broken couplings 1 Broken rails 1 Other Line Obstructions 3 Fires 1Of the engine derailments one was a light shunting engine, and the other a 2 feet gauge engine on the Fanling Branch.
